Absolute Software, Vancouver, British Columbia, has cureed a laptop computer equipped with Computrace ??” the company's computer tracking, monitoring and theft regaining solution. The laptop, belonging to an employee of Bennett Environmental Inc., Toronto, was stolen from the owner's car while it was parked outside a restaurant at the Toronto Airport. Unbeknownst to the thief, the computer made its first post-theft call 10 days later via modem to the Computrace Monitoring Center Absolute provided the address to the Toronto police, who discovered no sign of the computer or its user. Four days later, the computer began calling in to Absolute each 15 minutes over the Internet, and police were able to regain it later in the day.
